Tempered Patriotism

Though I respect and appreciate our troops, I just can’t support the administration that’s put them in harm’s way. Are we really accomplishing anything battling the pseudo-entity of terrorism? Don’t get me wrong; having been in New York on 9/11, the prospect of another attack on American soil terrifies me. But all we’ve proved in this war is that our government consistently lies (getting us into Iraq in the first place), and even though Americans don’t approve, no one has felt motivated to bring about change. Why was sex so much more of a scandal back in the 90′s? It seems like we’d rather focus our energies on complaining about the cost of gasoline, who will win the Democratic nomination, or who won American Idol. Isn’t there more to American culture?
